2022 Honda Accord vs. Honda Civic

Performance Compared

Both the Accord and the Civic come with multiple engine options that mix excellent performance with class-leading fuel economy. For the Civic, the first option is a 2.0-liter I4 that produces 158 horsepower and 138lb-ft of torque. The second option is a smaller 1.5-liter I4, but here it has turbocharging, making for 180 horsepower and 177lb-ft of torque. The Civic EX can hit 42 MPG EPA-estimated highway fuel economy** and isn’t even a hybrid.

The Accord has a hybrid version, so here there are three different drivetrains to choose from. The first offering is a 1.5-liter turbocharged I4 that produces 192 horsepower and 192lb-ft of torque. The other two options are both 2.0-liter four-cylinders. One of these is mated to a hybrid system, and the other is a performance power plant that is mated to a 10-speed automatic. This performance engine makes 252 horsepower and 273lb-ft of torque.

Exterior & Interior Specifications

You can see straight away that the Accord is bigger than the Civic, both in terms of length and width. Inside, this mostly translates into better rear legroom and more cargo space for the Accord, and a bit more shoulder room in the front seat as well. For its slightly smaller dimensions, the Civic gets a tighter turning circle.

If you’re looking for something small for city driving and parallel parking, the Civic is going to be a bit easier to live with. But if you’re going to regularly have adults in the back seat, or you need as much cargo space as you can get, the Accord is the more logical choice.
